People say that the eyes are the window to the soul. Looking into the eyes of the firefighter, we are reminded that this hero is still a regular person with regular worries, joys, and regular life. Furthermore, we are reminded that behind the mask is someone with a heart, soul, and emotions which means they are driven by compassion. This human emotion compels them to self-sacrifice and walk into burning buildings for the opportunity to save a life; this is what makes them a hero. They are regular people who are overcome by empathy for someone who is suffering.
John 15:13 “There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
